Tech support never slows down. We’re constantly answering calls and solving problems. But, we still like to waste time during lunch or in a dentist’s waiting room (but definitely not during meetings). Our engineers and technicians were enthusiastically quick to give me their absolute favorite time wasting apps.

Want to waste time like our IT pros? Give these ten apps a try!

Streaming

Spotify - “ Search for any track, artist or album and listen for free. Make and share playlists. Build your biggest, best ever music collection.”

While Jason and Scott like reliving the 90s with their playlists, Gabbi prefers singing along to broadway soundtracks. Courtney could listen to podcasts all day long.

YouTube - “Discover brand new content, learn from the best, share videos, and stream music.”

“I’ve got to show you this thing I found on YouTube” and “Who’s that guy again?” are common phrases heard around the Preferred IT office. We’ve got our own channel, too. Watch us smash eggs on our heads - it’s a guaranteed laugh.

Reading

Kindle - “The Kindle app gives users the ability to read eBooks on a beautiful, easy-to-use interface.”

You won’t find Gabbi or Courtney without access to their ebooks. Voracious readers, the both of them  can often be found reading on their lunch breaks. While Gabbi is partial to the Nook, Courtney’s shortcut to Kindle is front and center on her smartphone.

Audible - “Listen to your books wherever you are with our free app—at home, in the car, at the gym. Even if you switch devices, you'll never lose your place.”

Jason is always listening to books. He likes to keep himself educated. If Howard Stern isn’t on his truck’s radio, you can bet it’ll be a book on Audible.

Gaming

2048 - “Swipe to move all tiles. When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge into one. Get to the 2048 tile, and reach a high score!”

This is Courtney’s game of choice. It’s so relaxing, she often uses it to make herself drowsy before going to sleep!

Elevate - “Elevate is a brain training app designed to help you stay sharp, build confidence, and boost productivity.”

Want to keep your brain trained? Elevate gives you daily games to play designed to enhance your brain power. Particularly fun in the mornings with a cup of coffee - really gets your day started right.

Bloons Tower Defence - “Build awesome towers, choose your favorite upgrades, hire cool new Special Agents, and pop every last invading Bloon in the best ever version of the most popular tower defense series in history.”

Jason, a previous Clash of Clans user, is addicted to Bloons now instead. To be fair, it does look pretty fun!

Other

Imgur - “Imgur is the easiest way to discover spicy memes, pets in sweaters, awe-inspiring science facts, video game Easter eggs, and all the rest of the Internet’s most entertaining stuff.”

A favorite of Scott’s and Jordan’s. Scrolling through Imgur is a good way to waste hours without even noticing. Be careful though, not all of the content is work-friendly.

Snapchat - “Life's more fun when you live in the moment.”

If Gabbi hasn’t posted photos of her kid to her story all weekend, you should probably assume she lost her phone. Snapchat + toddlers is a hilariously adorable mix.

Etsy - “With the Etsy app, you can easily explore our global marketplace of handmade, vintage, and creative goods.”

Another app where scrolling can turn into an hour-long activity. This isn’t the best app for your pocketbook, but it’s definitely fun to see what you can find.
